"Haggling Rules at Hawker's Korner": (skip and proceed to shop)
- You must be a GBI member with correct billing address and contact information (free, faq) before we begin sale discussions - no such mundane issues must arise during fun-time.
- You should first see the pictures of the saris and read their descriptions. Please note that on the Internet, despite our best efforts, the color and texture of the picture may not be the exact replica of the actual dress, though it will be close. We cannot If you like a sari, then you're ready to shop. Ensure that you're a member. You can bid online for any sari by clicking on the "Haggle" button. The system will require a valid credit card payment at this time. All data provided (including payment info) must be accurate. The haggling can continue or both parties can accept the price. You may also place the initial bid by calling (510)573-0541 between 10 AM - 4 PM PST, Monday through Friday.
- Once a price is reached, your credit card will be charged for the settled amount immediately. The duration of shipping is mentioned alongside each item. Custom tailored dresses may take longer time. Because of security checking, additional time is often required, but you should write to us only when the designated time period is over. Please note that there are no refunds on Hawkers Korner dresses. If there are errors made by our personnel, we will make reasonable considerations. Please check our testimonial, which does demonstrate our continuous commitment to customer satisfaction.
- If a settlement price is not reached, you will NOT be charged.
- Our hawkers are permitted to be rude - don't take it personally, bargaining is an art and requires strong thespian qualities.
- Both you and the hawker may refuse to continue negotiation on an item at any point. This is called "giving the boot" protocol. If you do not receive an email response to your bid within 72 hours, there is a good possibility that the shopowner was disgusted with your offer price and turned to talk with another customer. A better bid may still be sent in and the hawkers may respond nicely...but then, they may not, too.
- While bargaining is certainly encouraged, please be aware that no-one will sell any item at ridiculous prices. All items are priced at market to begin with. Hence, if you want to pay $45 for a $90 item - please do not waste your time! Very often, the virtual shopkeeper may not allow you to bid below a certain margin - so you may get into a long haggling session with him. Remember, our virtual storekeeper has infinite patience and will continue to ask you to resubmit better bids. He is not intimidated, neither pressured to sell any faster.

1. All items sold at Hawker's Korner are non-refundable. Defective merchandise may be exchanged within 15 days of purchase by mailing the original piece(s) unused to GlobalBengal Initiatives Inc (address) only after obtaining approval from GBI. Regular merchandise may be exchanged if you decide that you don't like it after purchase only if customer returns the original sari in an unused and saleable condition within 10 days of purchase and pays for the re-shipping charges for the exchanged piece. Again, you must obtain permission from GBI before returning any items. If you need approval to return purchased items, please email orders@bengalcommerce.com. All returned items must be shipped at customer's cost.
2. Saris displayed here are generally all unique - there are no duplicates. Once an item is sold, it will be taken off the catalog. In case multiple customers bid for the same product, the item will be awarded to the customer that negotiates a purchase price with Hawker's Korner first - regardless of who started haggling for the item first.
3. Once a sale price is agreed upon by both parties, the customer is expected to furnish payment information via a credit card immediately - within 24 hrs. Instructions for this action will be provided to the customer via email. The sari price will be protected and honored for a period of 48 hrs maximum, after which it goes back in the shop with the original price. There is no guarantee that the shopkeeper will agree to the same negotiated price at a later date.
4. Shipping charge of $5 will be applied for one sari. If the customer is purchasing more that one sari, the shipping cost will depend on whether both items can be mailed at the same time, or whether 2 separate packings will be necessary. In either case, we'll intimate the customer about the exact mailing charge before despatching. Our attempt will always be to provide you the lowest price for shipping. As a rule of thumb, additional saris will cost $1.50 extra for shipping within USA.
5. All pictures of saris displayed have been taken by high quality cameras (mostly Sony digital camera). However, there are limitations of displaying picture resolution or color texture using web technology. Accordingly, the exact color or texture of the actual product may vary slightly from what the buyer had perceived to be upon seeing the sari picture on our site. The customer agrees to accept this risk. GBI will accept no responsibility for wrong assumptions on the part of the buyer, and will not accept such returns. Customers must read the descriptions of the saris as well as seeing the pictures before buying. However, the descriptions are often provided by independent vendors and may not always be verifiable by GBI. If the customer is not satisfied, the exachange policy (1) will still hold.
6. Please do not make any assumptions about any sari beyond what is written in the description. For example, do not assume that the sari contains blouse piece if it doesn't explicitly say so in the description column. We will be most careful to mention all the specifications of the sari. GBI will not be responsible for any implicit assumptions made about the saris. If you have a doubt, please ask first by writing to support@bengalcommerece.com or orders@bengalcommerce.com.
7. For customers from outside US or Canada, the main price differential will be the shipping charge. Needless to say, this will be higher than the postal cost within US. An exact shipping cost will be quoted only after a final sale price has been determined by both parties.
8. Have faith! GBI is a reputed company, and our hawkers do want your business, not just once but multiple times. We work with numerous sari vendors from India and Bangladesh to give you the best selection and value online. When you deal with us, rest assured that our goal is to make you happy and overjoyed with your purchase - and especially, with the price tag.
9. If you purchase an item from us using a credit card, your credit card statement will show a charge from Bengalcommerce (the merchant).
10. We will accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover credit cards only for online sari purchases.
